My good buddy Marcus called me today and invited me to check out Kanye West tonight at Nokia LA. I am not a fan per se of his but I have heard it is a pretty amazing show. Looking forward to spending some time with my boy, as we are both pretty busy with our perspective lives. The last chance we got to hang out was when the Yankees came to town last year to play the Angels.
I had purchased what may have been the worst seats in the entire stadium for that game. Literally the last section out in left field, beyond the foul pole, last row from the top, in Upper View 501. Not to worry because we had no intentions of actually sitting there. I rarely, if ever, actually sit in my "assigned" seat. But it got us into the stadium for $22 per ticket, which was I all I needed to do anyway.
This was a well attended game, in fact it was packed. If you are one to believe the hype, you could say it was Sold Out (I chuckle as I say that because I have come to learn over the years that there simply is no such thing as Sold Out).
We nestled into two empty seats along the first base line on the Terrace MVP 224 (http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/ana/ballpark/seating.jsp) at the start of the 2nd inning (traffic to Anaheim during rush hour is a NIGHTMARE!). Face value for this section was $75 but depending on what web site you went to, you could have easily spent $150 or more. Unfortunately this upgrade was short lived as the rightful owners of those seats arrived within a matter of minutes.
I have a theory. It goes that whenever I am forced to change location, it is the universe telling me that I have not yet reached the seating potential for the evening. Therefore, I never move backwards in the seating chart. If I am going to fail, I am going to fail UP. Nonchalantly, we moved along the pathway towards home plate until I spotted FOUR empties in Field MVP 124 just a few moments later. Now we are right behind the Yankees dugout, about six rows up from the field.
Deep breath. Exhale. We are now in the bottom of the third. I have learned that if I am still in the seat by the 5th inning, then the probability of me being ok is exponentially better with every passing batter. Sure enough, all was well.
This was great for Marcus as he is from New York and this was his team. Face value for these seats were $95, but if I wanted to grab them, they would set me back $250 or more per without question. For me, that is WAY too much to spend on a baseball game. That is a car payment. Or a round trip flight from LA to NY.
But for a combined $44, it was a night to remember!
Tonight will be different as I am being treated to the show. We will probably be hooked up seat wise, and I won't have to pull any shenanigans.
